What is counselling?
Counselling is a simple but very powerful tool, and it can be a very effective way of helping to deal with anxiety, depression or just everyday life problems. By committing to a series of sessions in which the focus is exclusively on you and whatever you would like to discuss, you are already on the path towards greater wellbeing.
In the sessions, you will lead and direct what we explore, in a completely non-judgemental and supportive setting. As a person-centred counsellor, I will not give advice or tell you what you should do; instead, I will help you to process your emotions, clarify your goals and unpick the reasons for any setbacks.
About me and how I work
I am a registered member of the BACP and have completed a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
My primary approach is person-centred, which rests on the belief that you, and not the counsellor, are the expert about what you are experiencing. However, I am also happy to integrate other approaches, such as CBT exercises, into our work together, if and when we feel they would be appropriate and helpful. Every client is unique, and therefore every approach needs to be tailored to their individual needs.
Sessions are currently only available via phone or video call, but I am hoping to resume face-to-face counselling as soon as it's safe to do so. These will be held in my dedicated counselling garden room, which is small but calm and peaceful. I am based in Ashford, Kent.
I would recommend an initial consultation session, in order to clarify your expectations and goals and to see if you feel that the process is for you. The relationship between a client and a counsellor is absolutely key to the success of therapy, so it’s very important that you feel comfortable with the idea of working with me before you commit to any further sessions. At this first session, we will discuss what you want to address and what has brought you to counselling, and we will work out a plan for how to proceed.
Following this appointment, if you feel you would like to continue counselling, regular sessions can be arranged.
30 minute initial consultation: £20
50 minute subsequent sessions: £40
There are also some appointments available for those on a lower income at a negotiated lower rate.
I accept payment by cash or cheque.
There are phone or video appointments currently available on Saturdays, Mondays and Tuesdays.
